KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 — The federal government received investment dividends amounting to RM39.547 billion in 2025, an increase of RM535 million or 1.4 per cent compared to RM39.012 billion in 2024.

According to the Auditor General's Report (LKAN) 2/2026 on the Federal Government Financial Statements for the Year 2025, the government received dividends from 20 companies and two statutory bodies, compared with 21 companies and two statutory bodies in the previous year.

"In 2025, the highest dividend was contributed by Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), amounting to RM32 billion, while Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) recorded a significant increase in dividend payments, rising by RM2.40 billion," according to the report, released today.

It added that BNM's dividend increased to RM5.25 billion in 2025 from RM2.85 billion in 2024, while Khazanah Nasional Bhd's dividend increased to RM2 billion in 2025 from RM1 billion in 2024.

Total dividends from statutory bodies increased by 81.8 per cent to RM5.275 billion from RM2.902 billion, while total dividends from companies fell by 5.1 per cent to RM34.271 billion from RM36.109 billion.

"Overall, the dividend receipts from nine companies and one statutory body amounted to RM7.433 billion compared to RM3.982 billion in 2024, an increase of RM3.451 billion (86.7 per cent).

"However, the dividend receipts from 12 companies and one statutory body showed a decline in 2025 compared to 2024, while three companies paid the same amount of dividends in both years," the report said.

Regarding investments, the Minister of Finance Incorporated (MoF Inc) held investments with a book value of RM34.117 billion in 2025, down RM131 million, or 0.4 per cent, from RM34.248 billion in 2024.

"This decline is due to the redemption of Redeemable Cumulative Preference Shares owned by MoF Inc in Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor, amounting to RM131.00 million and the full redemption of MoF Inc's shares amounting to RM1.00 in HICOM Holdings Bhd," it said.

Overall, the federal government has stakes in 109 companies, four statutory bodies, and one international agency, with the company category accounting for RM33.103 billion, or 97 per cent of the total RM34.117 billion.

The report noted that the book value of the federal government's investment in Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Bhd increased by RM1.517 billion due to the acquisition of shares by MoF Inc in exchange for its shares in Export-Import Bank of Malaysia Bhd and Small Medium Enterprise Development Bank Malaysia Bhd.
