Remand for Malaysian pilot held in Jakarta extended 30 days

SHAH ALAM, Oct 3 — A Malaysian pilot arrested in Jakarta on suspicion of smuggling drugs has had his remand order extended by 30 days, after the initial holding period of 60 days expired, Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan told Harian Metro today.

He said Malaysian police were informed of the decision by Indonesia’s Narcotics Crime Directorate.

“The case is still under investigation and assessment.

“They are extending (the pilot’s) remand period,” he said when contacted.

Hussein said another pilot and six other people who were arrested in connection with the drug syndicate are under a 60-day hold under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985.

In July, a 39-year-old Malaysia Airlines pilot was arrested at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta after authorities found 70,000 capsules, suspected to be filled with ecstasy and methamphetamine, in his baggage.
