SHAH ALAM, Oct 2 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj met and dined with two former menteris besar, Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo and Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, as well as the current Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari today.
The special meeting took place after the recitation of Yasin, tahlil, and prayers for safety, held in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee celebration of His Royal Highness's 25-year reign at Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah.
"This meeting reflects the Sultan of Selangor's continuous concern regarding the state's direction and the people's livelihood, whilst demonstrating the good relationship between the royal institution and the state's administrative leadership, including those who previously shouldered the responsibility," said the Selangor Royal Office in a Facebook post.
It added that during the meeting, Sultan Sharafuddin advised political leaders not to fight, squabble, or wrestle for power to the point of triggering division among themselves.
Instead, His Royal Highness wanted all efforts and attention to be focused on the state's development, the well-being of the people, and the welfare of those in need.
The Ruler noted that differences in stance and political ideologies should not be a barrier to cooperation for the benefit of the state and its people.
"Leadership responsibilities must be carried out with full trustworthiness, prioritising the people's interests above personal or political group interests.
"His Royal Highness also reminded that Selangor's progress must be accompanied by societal harmony and administrative stability.
"Hence, leaders must maintain an attitude of mutual respect and prioritise constructive discussions in addressing any differences," said the Office.
