SHAH ALAM, Oct 2 — Police have recorded statements from nine witnesses to assist investigations into the shooting of a businessman at a petrol station in Bidor yesterday.
Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said police had also completed taking a statement from the victim, who is now in stable condition after receiving treatment and undergoing surgery at Hospital Seri Manjung.
He said the nine witnesses included three of the victim’s family members who were in the same vehicle during the incident, two people in a Perodua Alza near the scene and employees of the petrol station.
“We have recorded statements from nine witnesses, including three of the victim’s family members who were in the same vehicle during the incident.
“Two individuals who were in a Perodua Alza near the scene, as well as employees of the petrol station, also had their statements recorded,” he told a press conference after an event honouring retirees and soon-to-be retirees from the Perak police contingent in Ipoh yesterday.
Elaborating, Mohd Alwi said police believed three individuals were involved in the incident, including a driver.
“There is a possibility that he [the victim] was followed. Otherwise, the suspects would not have arrived at speed.
“The suspects’ vehicle sped up and stopped in front of the victim’s car before shots were fired from two directions — the front and the right,” he said.
Mohd Alwi said police had examined closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from several locations, including toll plazas, but believed the suspects did not leave the area through any toll plaza.
“Police have examined CCTV footage at toll plazas and other locations, but from what we have found, they did not exit through the toll plazas. We are therefore still investigating the case from various angles to identify the suspects,” he said.
Earlier, the media reported that a man suffered an injury to his left shoulder after he was believed to have been shot by two armed individuals at a petrol station in Bidor Sentral at about 6.08 pm on Tuesday.
