PETALING JAYA, Oct 1 — The state government welcomes investment in the healthcare sector to strengthen healthcare capacity and meet the public's evolving needs, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.
Selangor’s development is not solely focused on economic progress; it must also ensure that people's needs, particularly in healthcare, advance alongside improvements in living standards.
He said the Second Selangor Plan, the state’s five-year development framework, also supports and emphasises the importance of healthcare provision.
“In line with population growth and societal development, demand for accessible and high-quality healthcare services is also increasing.
“At the same time, our population’s healthcare needs are becoming more complex, with an ageing population, a growing burden of non-communicable diseases, and specialised treatments requiring a robust healthcare system.
“Therefore, the state government welcomes investments that can enhance healthcare capacity and complement services for the community,” Amirudin said during the opening ceremony of the Sunway Medical Centre Damansara today.
Meanwhile, at a separate media conference, he said he is confident that the state’s economic growth rate will surpass the national growth rate.
“Based on current records and developments, Selangor is confident that it is on the right track. However, the actual achievement can only be assessed at the end of the year.
“The services sector remains the largest contributor, accounting for 60 per cent of the national economy,” Amirudin said.
According to a Malaysian Statistics Department report, Selangor remains the largest contributor to the national economy, with its gross domestic product (GDP) reaching RM460.1 billion.
The figure represents 26.5 per cent of the country’s total economic activity, up from 2024, when Selangor contributed RM432.1 billion, or 26.2 per cent, to the national GDP.
