SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 — Several locations in the state capital and Klang were hit by flash floods after continuous heavy rain this afternoon, disrupting several main routes and slowing traffic.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director (Operations) Ashrul Riezal Asbar said Taman Rashna, Klang, was among the affected areas and was inundated with waist-high floodwaters.
They received a call about the incident at 7pm, and a team of seven members from the Klang Selatan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was dispatched to the location.
"Fire engines could not enter the location due to high water levels, and the personnel had to walk 2km.
"Seven victims, consisting of one man, two women and four children, were successfully found before being taken to a safe place," he said in a statement tonight.
Ashrul added that all the victims, who were part of a family, were taken to a hut on a higher area and the water level had started to recede.
Meanwhile, social media posts showed that several main routes in Shah Alam and Klang were also flooded following continuous heavy rain.
Reported affected locations causing slow vehicle movement included around Section 7, Desa Alam in Shah Alam, and Bandar Baru Klang.
Earlier this evening, the Shah Alam City Council issued a flash flood warning and advised the public to remain vigilant after detecting rising water levels near the i-City traffic lights in Section 7 and the Padang Jawa traffic lights in Section 16.
A Bernama survey of the main roads in the Section 7 area tonight found that water levels had begun to recede and traffic flow had returned to normal.
