KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 — Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) since yesterday for observation, his son Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir said.
Mokhzani said his father was doing well and his condition was not a cause for concern, but the decision to admit him to IJN was made to allow him to receive care and attention following the death of his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.
“He was admitted to IJN for observation. The past two days have been very stressful for Tun M. For now, he is okay and his condition is not worrying,” he said when contacted today.
Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, 100, died at IJN on the morning of September 28 and was laid to rest at Pusara Negara in Precinct 20, Putrajaya, the same day following a state funeral.
Another of Dr Mahathir’s sons, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, had earlier said that before Dr Siti Hasmah’s death, Dr Mahathir had been at IJN accompanying his wife while she underwent treatment.
Dr Mahathir and Dr Siti Hasmah married on August 5, 1956, and marked their 70th wedding anniversary this year. They have seven children.
