SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 — The Selangor government wants to strengthen the alignment between workforce skills and industry needs to ensure talent development remains relevant amid changes in the job market.
Human resources executive councillor Papparaidu Veraman said the matter was discussed during a visit by TalentCorp representatives, including MyMAHIR Workforce Solutions vice-president and head Aravintha Vengettaramann and TalentCorp Group chief executive officer Biruntha LM.
He said discussions focused on preparing Selangor’s workforce to ensure talent and skills development are aligned with the current and future needs of industries.
“For Selangor, this approach is relevant in ensuring that human capital development does not focus solely on providing training, but is genuinely based on industry demand, the skills required and available employment opportunities,” he said in a Facebook post.
TalentCorp also presented its approach through MyMAHIR and the Future Skills Talent Council (FSTC), which focuses on the actual needs of industries.
This includes mapping workforce and employment demand, identifying critical skills, and developing more targeted upskilling and reskilling pathways.
“We also discussed an industry-driven approach that connects the state government, employers, training providers and jobseekers.
“The aim is to ensure that the training provided genuinely leads to employment opportunities,” Papparaidu said.
He said the state government was also open to expanding its strategic collaboration with TalentCorp to develop a skilled and competitive workforce.
“This collaboration is important to expand access to quality employment opportunities and ensure Selangor’s workforce is prepared for future needs,” he said.
