SHAH ALAM, Sept 29 — Approximately 2,138.4kg of recyclable waste was collected during the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) 2026 Malaysia Clean-up Day celebration at Taman Tun Abdul Razak (TAR) on Saturday (September 26).
It said 586 people participated in various activities and competitions throughout the event.
“The main plogging event around Taman TAR, Ampang, began at 7am, with participation from people of various age groups.
"A total of 2,138.4kg of recyclable waste, including paper, cardboard, plastic, metal, used cooking oil, and old clothing, was collected through this programme," MPAJ said in a statement yesterday.
Other activities that took place include an Environmental Health Exploration competition that combined environmental education and sustainable waste management elements, offering cash prizes of more than RM2,000 for the winners.
Additionally, the local authority conducted the Trash to Cash recycling programme, alongside a used clothing collection drive organised by MPAJ in collaboration with the Life Line Clothing Malaysia (LLCM) to assist the public dispose of unwanted clothes and encourage waste segregation.
“The event also featured a certificate presentation ceremony for companies appointed as panel contractors for the disposal of industrial, commercial, and institutional (ICI) waste.
“The appointed companies will be responsible for managing and controlling the disposal of ICI waste directly from premises owners,” it said.
The MPAJ-level 2026 Malaysia Cleanup Day and World Rivers Day celebrations were officiated by Lembah Jaya state assemblyman Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Al-Hadad. Also present were Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail and MPAJ deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari.
