JAKARTA, Sept 29 — Indonesia's government will inject 20 trillion rupiah (RM4.53 billion) into health insurer BPJS Kesehatan to help the state agency cover its deficit in 2026, according to a government statement.
BPJS Kesehatan has 285 million policyholders, making it one of the world's largest single-payer health insurers, but the agency often faces financial problems.
Its chief executive Prihati Pujowaskito said that so far this year, it has collected 118 trillion rupiah (RM26.78 billion) in revenue, below the 132 trillion rupiah (RM29.95 billion) it has paid out in medical claims, according to a statement released by the President's Office today.
In the same statement, Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara said the government cash injection will take place in October and November, using existing funds from the 2026 state budget.
