Malaysian fans kept inside Gelora Bung Karno after match for safety

JAKARTA, Sept 29 — Malaysian supporters were temporarily prevented from leaving Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium as a safety precaution after the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup Group A Division 1 match between Malaysia and Indonesia here last night.

The move was part of security measures aimed at preventing clashes between rival fans and ensuring the stadium emptied in a controlled manner.

Harimau Malaya supporters were asked to remain in their seats and await instructions from security personnel before leaving, allowing officials to ensure access routes and surrounding areas were secure.

Security was tight inside and outside GBK, with officers stationed at key points to monitor fan movement, particularly at exits and main walkways.

Officials wanted Malaysian fans to leave only after most Indonesian supporters had dispersed, reducing the risk of trouble.

The high-stakes match drew a huge crowd of home fans, prompting heightened security and crowd-control measures during and after the game.

Malaysia and Indonesia shared a point after playing to a goalless draw.

The national team are scheduled to face Singapore in their final group match at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung this Thursday.
