SHAH ALAM, Sept 27 — After 104 years since it was established, Gurdwara Sahib Kajang (GSK) continues to grow as a community centre that benefits the around 450 Sikh families in Kajang.
GSK president Ranjit Singh said the institution doesn’t just function as a house of worship but provides education, welfare and community facilities.
He said its new 3.5-storey building and upgraded darbar sahib (main hall) allows GSK to expand its services to the community and provide better facilities for the sangat (congregation).
“Besides being a house of worship, this gurdwara is also a community centre for education, welfare, community activities and food preparation through the langar (free community kitchen programme),” he said when met after the launch of the new GSK building and upgraded darbar sahib in Kajang yesterday.
Also present at the event was Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, who signed the commemoration plaque, witnessed by Selangor State Legislative Assembly Speaker Lau Weng San.
In 2004, GSK bought a 0.34ha plot of land adjacent to its original building for future development. The construction for the 3.5-storey building started in 2016, and the darbar sahib was upgraded this year.
Ranjit said GSK has been developed in stages according to a master plan to ensure facilities fulfil long-term community needs.
“This plan isn’t just for today’s needs, but for future generations so GSK continues to be a place that benefits the community,” he added.
He also said GSK emphasises good governance, responsible financial management, and systematic administration to ensure the institution’s continuity as a house of worship, education, welfare, and society.
