NAGOYA, Sept 26 — Malaysia's aspiration to add to its gold medal collection at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games shone brightly once again as two of the country's squash champions, Sivasangari Subramaniam and Ng Eain Yow, advanced to the finals of their respective singles events today.
Sivasangari, also the world number five, booked her ticket to the final after defeating Hong Kong’s Chan Sin Yuk 11-6, 11-8, 11-7 in the semi-final at the Nagoya Kinjofuto Arena.
The victory brings the 27-year-old closer to defending the gold medal she won at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.
She is scheduled to face young Indian player Anahat Singh, who occupies the 17th world ranking, in tomorrow's final match.
Head-to-head records favour Sivasangari after the Kedahan recorded two wins against Anahat at the 2026 London Squash Classic and the 2025 British Open, respectively.
However, she cannot take the challenge lightly, as she will certainly have her own motivation, given that the Asian Games championship also offers an automatic slot to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
In the men's singles event, Ng also ensured Malaysia has a representative on the final stage after the world number 18 player eliminated Pakistan's player Noor Zaman 11-7, 11-2, 11-4.
He will face Indian player Abhay Singh, ranked 24th in the world, in the gold medal playoff.
The men's singles final is scheduled for 3pm, while the women's singles final is at 4pm tomorrow, Malaysia time.
