SHAH ALAM, Sept 26 — Rapid KL has begun installing platform safety barriers at stations along the Kelana Jaya Line and Ampang/Sri Petaling Line as part of efforts to strengthen passenger safety.
Installation work, which began on August 1, has reached 85 per cent completion at Putra Heights Station, the first location selected for the project.
In a statement, it said the station was selected to test and refine the system's design, installation methods, and operational aspects before rolling it out to other stations.
The barriers will be installed in stages at stations along both lines, except for five underground stations on the Kelana Jaya Line, which are already equipped with automatic platform screen door systems.
Prasarana Group chief operating officer (strategy and development) cum acting group president and group chief executive officer Prodyut Dutt said installing platform safety barriers was among the measures Rapid KL is taking to create a safer travel environment.
“Passenger safety is always our priority. The installation of these platform safety barriers is another proactive measure to strengthen safety at stations, while also giving passengers greater confidence when waiting for and boarding trains,” he said.
Prodyut added that the implementation at Putra Heights Station would enable the company to ensure the installation and operational aspects were properly refined before rolling out the system to other stations.
Installation work will be carried out in stages and coordinated with daily maintenance schedules to ensure uninterrupted train services. The first phase of the installation is expected to be fully completed by mid-2027.
Rapid KL said the installation of the platform safety barriers is part of its ongoing efforts to improve safety standards across the rail network, while providing passengers with a safer and more comfortable station environment.
