KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has allocated RM28.12 million for phased maintenance and upgrading works at the Batu Muda People's Housing Programme (PPR).
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said the allocation to improve various facilities at the housing scheme was expected to benefit more than 10,000 residents, provided they took good care of the facilities.
“As long as Malaysians do not know how to maintain cleanliness, money will continue to be spent on cleaning operations, and we will not have enough funds for development,” she told the media during the Mega Cleaning Programme in conjunction with Malaysia Clean-Up Day and a walkabout to inspect maintenance works at PPR Batu Muda today.
Yeoh emphasised that maintaining cleanliness through the Malaysia Clean-Up initiative should become a continuous habit rather than merely a one-off programme.
The programme was also attended by Batu MP Prabakaran Parameswaran and Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud.
Meanwhile, DBKL said the upgrading works completed at PPR Batu Muda included replacing 21 lifts costing RM11.69 million, completed in October last year and currently within the Defects Liability Period.
In a statement, it said road resurfacing works were also completed, costing RM1.46 million, as well as upgrading a children's playground at the housing scheme at a cost of RM278,000.
