KINABATANGAN, Sept 26 — A weak earthquake, measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale, hit Kuamut at 5.32am today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department.
The quake epicentre was 5.1° north latitude and 116.8° east longitude, at a depth of 118km, about 223km northwest of Tarakan, Indonesia, and 32km southwest of Tongod, Sabah.
It added that the quake did not pose any tsunami threat to Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station chief Suriyadi Drawis said a team of six firefighters conducted patrols and monitoring in Kinabatangan at 6.26am after the earthquake report.
They inspected the Sabah Economic Development Corporation (Sedco) premises, Bukit Garam Library, Bukit Garam Point, and other areas identified as being at risk.
"The inspection found no collapses or structural damage to any of the buildings checked," he said in a statement.
Suriyadi noted that the team also advised local residents to remain vigilant in case of aftershocks.
