SHAH ALAM, Sept 23 — With Petaling Jaya recording 1,320 strata development schemes involving 202,490 strata parcels as of August 2026, the city council is highlighting the importance of effective community management in keeping the city orderly, harmonious and prosperous.
In a Facebook post, the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) said the scale of strata development in the city had made community management an increasingly important aspect of urban administration.
The council said the recent Commissioner of Buildings (COB) Empowerment Programme for Local Authorities, held at the MBPJ Banquet Hall, provided a platform for officers to share insights and experiences.
"It serves as a platform for COB officers from local authorities nationwide to share experiences, coordinate approaches and discuss current issues and challenges related to strata management.
"The programme also serves as a platform to identify best practices that can be adapted by the respective local authorities, while strengthening the capacity of COBs in carrying out responsibilities related to the governance and enforcement of the Strata Management Act 2013," the council said.
MBPJ said the initiative also aimed to strengthen officers' capacity to manage issues involving strata communities, particularly in terms of governance and enforcement.
The event also saw the launch of the standard operating procedure (SOP) for the payment of allowances to members of strata management committees.
The SOP was launched by National Housing Department director-general Dr Tan Awang Besar.
Also present were National Housing Department deputy director-general (housing management) Dato' Muhamad Nahar Mohd Sidek and Petaling Jaya Mayor Dato' Mohd Yazid Sairi.
