SHAH ALAM, Sept 21 — Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor says she is deeply touched by the support and offers of contributions from friends in Malaysia and abroad to a solidarity fund for her husband, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
In a statement on Facebook, Rosmah said friends from Brunei, Italy, Singapore and Canada were among those who had contacted her to express their happiness over the latest developments involving Najib and their intention to contribute.
“The contributions have come not only from friends and acquaintances here, but also from friends overseas from Brunei, Italy, Singapore and other countries, as far as Canada.
“They have contacted me to express their happiness over the latest developments involving Datuk Seri Najib and their intention to contribute.
“They simply want to see Datuk Seri return and be with his family. That is all,” she said.
On September 18, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, granted Najib a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, subject to the payment of an RM50 million fine and other conditions.
The decision was made at the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.
Following the decision, UMNO launched the Najib Razak Solidarity Fund to help the former party president pay the RM50 million fine, with party leaders, members, supporters and the public invited to contribute voluntarily.
Rosmah said the support and concern shown towards her husband had been unexpected, describing the willingness of people to help as sincere and heartfelt.
“I am truly touched. Today, I realise who the friends are who have always stood by us through difficult and good times,” she said.
