KUALA PILAH, Sept 21 — Authorities have identified two individuals believed to be involved in a video mocking the Rukun Negara that resurfaced and went viral last week.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) was fully cooperating with Bukit Aman's Criminal Investigation Department and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in the investigation.
He said several aspects of the investigation were still ongoing, including efforts to trace others who may be linked to the recirculation of the video.
“As of yesterday, MCMC was fully cooperating with Bukit Aman's Criminal Investigation Department, and several aspects of the investigation are ongoing, including efforts to trace those involved.
“I have been informed that two individuals involved in the video have been identified,” he said.
Fahmi was speaking to reporters after officiating the Communications Ministry's Kampung Angkat Madani 2025 programme at Surau Kampung Tebat Kering here yesterday, according to KOSMO! ONLINE.
He said the video was not new content but was believed to have been recorded about eight years ago before resurfacing and going viral again over the past week.
“The video is from eight years ago, but it was recirculated and went viral again over the past week.
“MCMC and PDRM will issue statements from time to time on the status of the investigation,” he said.
Media reports earlier said a video of a performance containing elements deemed insulting to the royal institution, Malaysia and the Rukun Negara had gone viral, prompting calls for authorities to investigate and take action against those involved.
