SHAH ALAM, Sept 20 — More areas in Selangor recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading as of 5pm today, with Shah Alam and Johan Setia recording the state’s highest reading at 157.

In Selangor, besides Shah Alam and Johan Setia, other areas affected were Petaling Jaya (151), Banting (135), Kuala Selangor (119), and Klang (112). No areas in Selangor recorded moderate, very unhealthy, or hazardous air quality readings. 

The National Disaster Management Agency conducted a cloud seeding operation in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya yesterday and today to mitigate the effects of the haze and improve air quality in the affected areas.

Data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System showed IPD Serian in Sarawak recorded the highest air quality readings nationwide at 178, followed by Samarahan (167), and Kuching (164). 

In total, 32 areas recorded unhealthy air quality readings with areas including in Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, and Pahang. 

Meanwhile, 29 areas recorded moderate readings, while six areas with good air quality, and no areas recorded as very unhealthy air quality. 

An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are hazardous.

The public is advised to reduce prolonged outdoor activities and take necessary precautions when air quality deteriorates.
