Shah Alam records highest API reading in Selangor, Serian tops nationwide

SHAH ALAM, Sept 20 — Shah Alam recorded the highest unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading in Selangor at 153 compared to Johan Setia (140) and Petaling Jaya (116), as of 12pm today. 

According to the Air Pollutant Index Management System, four areas in Sarawak recorded top highest unhealthy API readings, with IPD Serian recorded the highest reading nationwide at 178, followed by Samarahan (169), Kuching (165), and Sri Aman (160). 

In total 24 areas recorded unhealthy air quality readings with areas including in Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, and Melaka. 

Meanwhile, 38 areas recorded moderate readings, while five areas with good air quality, and no areas recorded as very unhealthy air quality. 

An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are hazardous.

The public is advised to reduce prolonged outdoor activities and take necessary precautions when air quality deteriorates.
