Johan Setia air quality still Malaysia’s poorest, with 173 API reading at 10pm

SHAH ALAM, Sept 18 — Johan Setia has Malaysia’s worst Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 173, followed by Perak’s Seri Manjung (170) and Sarawak’s Kuching (170), at 10pm, according to the API Management System (APIMS) portal.

Four more areas in Selangor have unhealthy API readings, namely, Shah Alam (165), Petaling Jaya (158), Klang (154), and Banting (154).

These towns are part of 31 areas nationwide with unhealthy API readings. Thirty-four more have moderate air quality, while only three — Sabah’s Sandakan (47), Perlis’ Kangar (33) and Kedah’s Langkawi (21) — have good API scores.

An API reading of between 101 and 200 is unhealthy, 51-100 is moderate, and 0 to 50 is good.

Authorities have advised people to limit outdoor activities and take precautions, with the Selangor government to distribute face masks for free to students as haze protection.
