SHAH ALAM, Sept 18 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has reduced the approval period for high-impact investment projects from 30 days to 25 days under its new Speed Selangor@MBPJ initiative.
Mayor Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi said the initiative was introduced to accelerate the approval process and facilitate the smooth and timely implementation of investment projects, The Star reported.
“In the past, the documentation required for project submissions delayed the approval process. We have improved the engagement process to ensure all necessary documentation is provided.
“At MBPJ, we have a technical team that can help facilitate the process,” the local English daily quoted him as saying.
NXP Malaysia Sdn Bhd was the first company to receive approval under the initiative, paving the way for the expansion of its smart manufacturing facility in the Sungai Way Free Industrial Zone.
Yazid said the NXP expansion includes the construction of a connecting bridge between the company’s north and south campuses in the industrial zone.
He said the project would also strengthen Malaysia’s role in the global semiconductor supply chain, particularly in chip assembly, testing and packaging.
Under the Speed Selangor@MBPJ initiative, Yazid said investors can also begin preliminary site works without having to wait for final building plan approval.
“Once construction reaches 80 per cent completion, MBPJ is prepared to issue a temporary business licence for six months, allowing machine testing to commence earlier.
“Subsequently, a full business licence will be issued within 24 hours after the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) has been submitted, subject to compliance with the stipulated requirements,” he said.
Meanwhile, NXP Malaysia managing director Goon Ben Nee said the company submitted its project plan on August 10 and received approval on September 4.
Goon said the expansion is expected to create about 500 high-value job opportunities.
