SHAH ALAM, Sept 16 – Two events organised by the Bandar Utama state assembly scheduled for September 19 have been postponed due to heavy rain and unhealthy Air Pollution Index (API) readings.
State executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin said the decision to postpone a 5km walkathon and carnival was made after considering the safety of all those involved.
“The ‘5KM Walkathon Kita Malaysia!’ and ‘Karnival Rasa Sayang DUN Bandar Utama’ programmes scheduled for September 19 (Saturday), are postponed first due to heavy rain and the current IPU reading at an unhealthy level.
“This decision was made after considering the safety factors of all participants, local community, staff, and volunteers," she said in a Facebook post.
Jamaliah added that the programmes have been postponed to October 24 at Padang SS23/17, Taman SEA.
She said registrations for the walkathon would begin at 6am, while the carnival programmes would start at 8.30am.

Meanwhile, on the topic of haze pollution, as of 4pm today, 38 areas recorded unhealthy API readings.
In Selangor, the affected areas were Johan Setia (183), Shah Alam (170), Petaling Jaya (164), Klang (160), Kuala Selangor and Banting (159).
Johan Setia logged the highest API reading nationwide followed by Cheras, Kuala Lumpur at 174 followed by Batu Muda, Kuala Lumpur (170), Putrajaya (170) and Shah Alam (170).
The API Management System (APIMS) portal also reported 22 areas with moderate API readings between 52 to 99.
The portal also recorded eight areas in Sarawak and Sabah with good API reading between 36 to 50.
On the API, a reading of 0 to 50 is good, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and anything above 300 is hazardous.
The public is advised to take precautions and reduce prolonged outdoor activities, especially individuals who are more sensitive to the effects of poor air quality.
