Education Ministry approves RM200,000 for repairs at fire-damaged SK Setia Alam

KUALA LUMPUR,  Sept 16 — The Education Ministry has allocated RM200,000 for initial repairs and electrical works at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Setia Alam following a fire that destroyed a classroom on Monday.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek said a technical team from the ministry visited the school the following day to assess the damage and take the necessary follow-up action.

She said that while investigations by the police and Fire and Rescue Department were ongoing, measures had been taken to ensure unaffected areas of the school remained safe and usable, with repair works to begin once the investigations were completed.

“We want the children to be able to continue their learning and return to their classrooms in a safe and comfortable environment as soon as possible,” she said in a Facebook post today.

Fadhlina also praised the swift response of SK Setia Alam teachers who helped contain the fire while waiting for firefighters to arrive, describing their actions as being on the front line during the emergency.

“In a moment of crisis, these teachers did not just stand by and watch. They fought the fire... thank you for looking after this school as if it were your own home,” she said.

On Monday afternoon, a classroom measuring 55.74 square metres at SK Setia Alam was destroyed by fire.

No students were inside the classroom at the time, and the blaze had been extinguished before firefighters arrived.
