SHAH ALAM, Sept 16 – Five areas in Selangor recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 11am today, with Johan Setia recording the highest reading nationwide at 187.
The other affected areas in Selangor were Shah Alam at 175, Petaling Jaya at 168, Klang at 166, Banting at 166, and Kuala Selangor at 164.
Overall, 40 areas nationwide recorded unhealthy API readings as of 10am, with readings ranging from 107 to 187.
Johan Setia also recorded the highest API reading among all monitoring stations listed, followed by Cheras, Kuala Lumpur at 179, Nilai, Negeri Sembilan at 177 and Putrajaya at 176.
A total of 22 areas also recorded moderate API readings including in Johor, Kelantan, Perlis, Sabah and Sarawak.
The portal also recorded good API readings in six areas, all of which were in Sarawak.
The API classifies readings of between 101 and 200 as unhealthy, with those between 51 and 100 are moderate while those between zero and 50 are labelled as good.
Members of the public, particularly those in affected areas, are advised to reduce prolonged outdoor activities and take appropriate precautions when air quality deteriorates.
Residents experiencing discomfort or breathing difficulties should seek medical attention if necessary.
