Local councillors must become bridge between people, govt, says MB

SHAH ALAM, Sept 15 — Selangor’s local councillors must play a more active role in connecting residents with government agencies to resolve community issues, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

“Councillors must refer the people with departments concerned,” he said during a town hall held in conjunction with Malaysia Day at Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Polytechnic here today.

Amirudin added that residents who cannot meet local leaders to voice issues affecting them can seek help from department heads or officers, as they would have better understanding of technical aspects and appropriate solutions to address certain complaints.

“Sometimes the department directors are the ones who can solve the problem because they understand the planning, the risks and the solutions,” he explained.

The menteri besar also offered to personally look into complaints sent to him on social media.

“If there are complaints sent to me through direct messages, I can check them,” Amirudin said.
