Toddler in stray dog attack to undergo plastic surgery

SHAH ALAM, Sept 14 — Two-year-old Nur Haira Wafiqah, who was injured in a stray dog attack, will undergo plastic surgery to her head and face soon, said her aunt who only wished to be known as Nur.

The aunt, 23, said she was informed of the matter yesterday by Nur Haira’s parents, who are accompanying the victim at Sultana Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru.

“That’s the way (plastic surgery) we have to heal her injuries as normal treatment and surgery isn’t enough.

“What we were told was that Nur Haira can breathe on her own without a ventilator. She can also open her eyes, it’s just that she isn’t responding.

“The medical team is still monitoring her. We ask for the people’s kindness and prayers for Nur Haira to recover soon,” she said when met today.

Nur added that Kampung Tambak villages are being threatened by another pack of wild dogs, even though authorities are still rounding up the dogs that attacked Nur Haira.

She said the pack of around 10 dogs have been roaming the oil palm plantation behind Nur Haira’s grandfather’s house.

“Before this, the authorities caught seven dogs, including five puppies that attacked Nur Haira. Three more haven’t been caught and are still roaming near the house.” she explained.

Previously, media reports said the victim was found bleeding with her head and cheek severely bitten after being attacked by five dogs.

The incident was witnessed by Nur Haira’s grandmother, Darlinda Darlis, 56, who screamed for help when she saw the dogs attacking the victim in front of their house.
