SHAH ALAM, Sept 11 — Air quality continued to improve nationwide, with only one area recording very unhealthy levels in Sarawak this morning.
According to data from the Department of Environment’s Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, all areas in Selangor recorded moderate Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 11 am.
Johan Setia recorded the highest API in Selangor at 99, followed by Shah Alam (77), Kuala Selangor (70), Klang (70), Petaling Jaya (69) and Banting (69).
Nationwide, Serian recorded the highest API at 202, placing it in the very unhealthy category.
A total of 14 areas recorded unhealthy readings, including 10 in Sarawak — Kuching (182), Samarahan (181), Sri Aman (174), Samalaju (161), Sarikei (160), Sibu (157), Mukah (155), Bintulu (154), ILP Miri (151) and Miri (151).
The other areas with unhealthy API readings were Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (149), Pasir Gudang, Johor (127), Labuan (113) and Larkin, Johor (111).
Only five areas nationwide recorded good air quality, while 48 recorded moderate readings.
An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while a reading above 300 is hazardous.
The public is advised to remain alert to changes in air quality and take the necessary precautions, particularly when conditions deteriorate.
