SHAH ALAM, Sept 8 – A Health Ministry medical officer, Dr Ainul Baroah Kamaruddin, 32, has been confirmed dead in a helicopter crash at Long Lellang Airport, Ulu Baram, Sarawak, this evening.
The matter was conveyed by her sister-in-law Nureez Mohd Pauzi, who said the family was informed of Dr Ainul's death through a call from the ministry to her husband, Muhammad Faiz Abdul Malik, 37, at about 4pm, reported Harian Metro.
"The Health Ministry contacted the family to inform them that Dr Ainul, who was in the helicopter crash, had died," she said.
Nureez said the family, based are in Kelantan, are currently on their way to Kuala Lumpur before departing for Sarawak early tomorrow morning.
"My family is at Sultan Ismail Petra Airport to travel to Kuala Lumpur before departing for Sarawak at dawn tomorrow.
"We are still in shock and the earliest flight to Sarawak is tomorrow morning," she said.
Dr Ainul, who is from Kota Bharu, started working at a hospital in Miri last year after previously serving at Tanah Merah Hospital.
She moved to Sarawak to follow her husband who is a teacher in Miri.
Nureez said the family still does not know the purpose of Dr Ainul's trip on the helicopter.
Earlier, a BO-105 helicopter carrying five individuals including the pilot was reported to have crashed and caught fire near Long Lellang Airport, Ulu Baram.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) confirmed receiving notification of the incident from the Flight Information Service at 3.58 pm.
Apart from Dr Ainul, the other four people on the helicopter were the pilot and three Health Ministry staff, including two nurses.
