SHAH ALAM, Sept 7 – The Selangor Menteri Besar Foundation (Incorporated), or Yayasan MBI, has allocated RM52,000 to 14 recipients to support the development of young talents in sports and education.
Yayasan MBI chief executive officer Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the recipients had achieved success in their respective fields, including BMX, rugby, archery, badminton and motorcycling.
“There is no age limit. We do not look at whether someone is still in school or not. As long as they have represented the state or country, we will help them as a form of support.
“We have determined that each individual can only receive assistance once a year,” he said when met at the aid handover ceremony at the MBI office here today.
Azri said the amount of assistance was determined based on whether the recipient was an individual or part of a group, with priority given to those representing Selangor and the country.
He said the foundation’s assistance also covered education, entrepreneurship, sustainability and community development, in addition to sports.
“Not only from a sports perspective, but we will also provide assistance in education and welfare,” he added.
Azri said support for young athletes was important to ensure they could continue developing their potential, while students who had brought success to Selangor and Malaysia in education were also given attention.
He said the effectiveness of the assistance could be seen through the success of a laptop recipient last year, who went on to win the National Accounting Student Excellence Award (NASEA) this year.
“My hope for the recipients is that they will be grateful, thankful and feel fortunate to be in Selangor.
“We have strong leadership and a strong economy, which is why the people are able to receive various forms of assistance and support,” he added.
