PJ Half Marathon 2026 cancelled over haze

SHAH ALAM, Sept 6 — The PJ Half Marathon 2026 has been cancelled at the last minute due to concerns over the health and safety of participants amid the continued unhealthy air quality.

Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) said the decision was made after careful consideration with the safety and well-being of runners, volunteers, event personnel and all parties involved in the event taking priority.

“The PJ Half Marathon 2026 is cancelled on safety and health grounds following the air quality which remains at an unhealthy level,” it said in a statement, yesterday.

The cancellation comes as haze continues to affect air quality in several areas, raising concerns over prolonged outdoor activities and strenuous exercise.

“The decision has not been made lightly. While the latest forecast indicates that the Air Pollutant Index (PU) may improve over the next 24 hours, the reading remains within the unhealthy range, which may have an impact on the health and well-being of our runners, volunteers, crew and everyone involved in the event.

“As organisers, the safety of our running community must come first. After careful consideration, we believe that cancelling the event is the wisest and most responsible decision we can make at this time,” it said.

The council said participants should refer to the accompanying visual for further information on the alternative 5km route and the collection of race entitlements.
