IPOH, Sept 2 — Police have arrested a fifth suspect in connection with a robbery that led to the death of a 69-year-old man in Teluk Intan on April 17.
Hilir Perak police chief ACP Chua Kok Lian said in a statement last night that the 26-year-old man was arrested in Klang on August 26 during Ops Kesan/Wanted.
He said the arrest followed sustained efforts to track down and bring to justice those believed to be involved in the case.
Four of the suspect’s alleged accomplices were earlier arrested and charged in court on May 7 under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code.
“Following further investigations, the case was referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor, and instructions were received for the suspect to also be charged under the same provisions,” he said.
“The suspect, who is currently under remand, will be brought before the Teluk Intan Magistrate’s Court on September 2 to face the charge.”
Chua urged anyone with information on criminal activities to come forward and share it with police to assist efforts to maintain public safety and order, particularly in the Hilir Perak district.
On April 17, an elderly man died after being slashed with a machete during a gang robbery at a house in Pekan Baru, Teluk Intan.
Chua had previously said the victim suffered severe injuries to his right hand and left palm and was pronounced dead at the scene.
On May 7, four men were charged at the Teluk Intan Magistrate’s Court with murdering the elderly man using a sharp weapon.
