Haze: Six areas in Sarawak record hazardous API

SHAH ALAM, Sept 1 — Air quality in Sarawak continued to deteriorate, with six areas recording hazardous Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 10am today.

Based on the Environment Department’s (DOE) Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, IPD Serian recorded the highest reading at 406, followed by Kuching (398), Samarahan (369), Sri Aman (362), Sarikei (340) and Sibu (321).

Three other areas in Sarawak recorded very unhealthy API readings, with Bintulu and Mukah each recording 241, while Samalaju logged 234.

Meanwhile, nine other areas nationwide recorded unhealthy readings, namely ILP Miri, Sarawak (187), Miri, Sarawak (181), Kapit, Sarawak (180), Labuan (168), Limbang, Sarawak (165), Kimanis, Sabah (159), Keningau, Sabah (157), Johan Setia, Selangor (151), and Tawau, Sabah (135).

A total of 48 areas recorded moderate readings, including five in Selangor — Shah Alam (75), Klang (75), Banting (72), Kuala Selangor (71) and Petaling Jaya (65).

An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100 (moderate); 101 to 200 (unhealthy); 201 to 300 (very unhealthy); and above 300 (hazardous).
