PUTRAJAYA, Aug 31 — Their Majesties Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Zarith Sofiah, King and Queen of Malaysia, graced the 69th National Day celebration at Dataran Putrajaya here today.
Their Majesties arrived at 8am and were received by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as well as Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, who is chairman of the National Day and Malaysia Day committee.
Their Majesties also extended Merdeka greetings to Malaysians, in a message posted to Sultan Ibrahim’s Facebook page today.
At the parade, the call of the trumpet echoed across Dataran Putrajaya before the Main Honour Guard band played the national anthem “Negaraku”.
This was followed by a fly-past of five helicopters carrying the Jalur Gemilang and the flags of the Malaysian Armed Forces, Army, Royal Malaysian Navy and Royal Malaysian Air Force, immediately after Their Majesties took their places on the Royal Stage.
Sultan Ibrahim also inspected the parade and received the Royal Salute from the Main Honour Guard, performed by the 41st Battery of the Ceremonial Royal Artillery Regiment, comprising three officers and 57 other personnel from Sungai Buloh Camp.
Themed “Malaysia Madani: Prosperity Enjoyed”, this year’s parade is expected to draw over 80,000 visitors and features 10,819 participations across 76 contingents, 22 brass bands, 11 floats, 328 land, sea and air assets, 112 service animals, and 22 electric vehicles.
The celebration has drawn over 80,000 visitors.
