KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — Australia remains committed to working with Malaysia to strengthen cooperation, support sustainable economic growth, and promote an open, inclusive, and resilient region amid growing global uncertainty, said Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia Danielle Heinecke.
As the country marks this important milestone, Australia looks forward to further deepening the partnership and friendship with Malaysia in the years ahead.
She noted that Australia and Malaysia share a longstanding friendship built on decades of mutual trust, cooperation, and deep people-to-people connections, which began before Malaysia’s independence and has grown across trade and investment, education, defence and security, technology, innovation, and healthcare.
“Since establishing our diplomatic presence in 1955, we have worked closely together to advance our shared interests and strengthen the ties between our people.
“As close partners in the Indo-Pacific, Australia values Malaysia’s important role in ASEAN and its contributions to regional peace, stability, and prosperity,” Heinecke said in a statement today, ahead of Malaysia’s National Day on Monday (August 31).
She added that this national celebration is an opportunity to reflect on Malaysia’s remarkable achievements and the unity, diversity, and resilience that continue to drive the country’s success
On a personal note, Heinecke said Malaysia holds a special place in her heart, as it does for the many Australians who have lived, travelled, and worked in the country.
“During my time in Malaysia, I have been fortunate to enjoy many unforgettable experiences, from climbing Mount Kinabalu and exploring the beauty of Malaysia’s tropical islands to swimming with the turtles in Terengganu. Most importantly, I have been touched by the warmth and hospitality of Malaysians,” she said.
