SHAH ALAM, Aug 28 — WCE Holdings Bhd expects over 150,000 vehicles daily on the West Coast Expressway (WCE) over the 69th Independence Day and school holiday this weekend.
Due to the estimated increase in traffic volume at peak travel periods, WCE Holdings highway operations head Syed Muhd Naguib Syed Mohd advised Malaysians to plan ahead and avoid peak travel periods (late afternoon to evening).
“We expect more than 150,000 vehicles daily to use the WCE throughout the Merdeka and school holiday period.
“This increase is consistent with travel patterns typically experienced during extended weekends and school holidays, particularly for journeys between the Klang Valley, Selangor and Perak,” he said in a statement today.
Malaysians celebrate Merdeka on Monday.
Syed Naguib also advised commuters to plan their journeys using the WCE app, which provides route navigation, real-time traffic updates, and live CCTV views along the expressway.
“Our priority is to ensure the safety of every highway user. Plan your journey, get sufficient rest and never compromise safety simply to save a few minutes of travel time,” he said.
He also said WCE Holdings will step up operational preparedness across its operational sections, including with 24-hour patrols, Emergency Response Team coverage, and continuous traffic monitoring to ensure smoother and safer journeys throughout the holiday.
For emergency assistance along WCE, highway users may contact the 24-hour WCE Infoline at 1700-81-6600.
