PETALING JAYA, Aug 27 — Selangor is confident that investment inflows will stay strong year-long despite the haze, said state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han.
He added that Selangor recorded RM33.1 billion in approved investments in the first quarter.
“We are confident that the investment coming into Selangor will also be quite high for the second and subsequent quarters,” he told reporters after launching this year’s Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) at the Sheraton Petaling Jaya Hotel here today.
He said the services sector remains a major contributor to investment inflows, followed by manufacturing and electrical and electronics (E&E).
Ng also added that the haze has not had a significant direct impact on investment in Selangor so far.
“If directly, not so much. A meeting was held this morning to get information from agencies concerned and determine measures to be taken by all agencies, including schools.
“Further statements on the state’s response to the haze are expected to be issued later today,” Ng said.
Several areas in Selangor are seeing worsening air quality, including Johan Setia, Banting, Klang and Shah Alam, with unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings.
