SHAH ALAM, Aug 27 — Air quality across Selangor has improved, with all areas that recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings yesterday returning to moderate levels today.
According to data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, Johan Setia, which recorded Selangor’s highest API reading of 161 yesterday, fell to 97 today, a drop of 64 points.
Shah Alam also recorded a 64-point decline, from 158 to 94, while Banting improved from 151 to 77.
Klang’s reading fell from 135 to 77, while Petaling Jaya recorded 83, down from 112 yesterday.
This means all five areas that recorded unhealthy air quality yesterday have returned to the moderate category, which covers API readings of between 51 and 100.
Kuala Selangor also recorded a moderate API reading of 80 today.
Nationwide, Seberang Perai in Penang, Kuching in Sarawak and Johan Setia each recorded among the highest readings in the moderate category, at 97.
However, four areas continued to record unhealthy air quality today, led by Samarahan in Sarawak at 164, followed by IPD Serian (162), Sri Aman (155) and Cheras, Kuala Lumpur (116).
Other areas approaching unhealthy levels included Sungai Petani in Kedah at 96, Batu Muda in Kuala Lumpur (95) and Tanjung Malim in Perak (94).
Yesterday, five locations in Selangor — Johan Setia, Shah Alam, Banting, Klang and Petaling Jaya — simultaneously recorded API readings above 100.
