Sunway Lagoon confirms accident, provides medical aid to victims

SHAH ALAM, Aug 26 — Sunway Theme Parks has confirmed an accident at Sunway Lagoon on Saturday and said it is providing medical assistance to those affected.

Its management said that since the incident, it has focused on the care and well-being of the victims while remaining in close contact with them and their families.

“We are also working closely with all relevant authorities conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.

“We are ready to continue cooperating with the authorities and the individuals involved throughout this process,” it said in a statement yesterday.

The theme park management said it takes the incident seriously and remains committed to ensuring that all attractions and facilities meet the highest safety standards.

“We regret the incident. We will continue to prioritise safety and assure visitors that their safety will remain protected,” it said.

Meanwhile, the New Straits Times reported that Sunway Group founder Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah expressed regret over the incident but was thankful that there were no fatalities.

He said authorities were conducting further investigations into the cause of the accident, while police had ruled out the possibility of foul play.

He also said the ride involved had been temporarily closed to allow a thorough inspection to be carried out.

On Monday, Subang Jaya district police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said 10 visitors were injured in an accident involving a roller coaster at a theme park in Subang Jaya.

He said 22 visitors, including foreign tourists aged between 11 and 44, were on the ride when the accident occurred at about 9 pm.

Ten people were injured and taken to medical centres around Subang Jaya for treatment. All suffered only minor injuries and no fatalities were reported.
