KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 — Four states in Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak are expected to experience thunderstorms, heavy rains, and strong winds until 1pm today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a statement, it said the whole of Perlis and Melaka are expected to be affected.
In Kedah, the warning covers Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, and Padang Terap. In Selangor, the areas forecast to be hit are Kuala Selangor, Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor, and Gombak, while in Sarawak, the areas involved are Bintulu and several areas in Miri: Subis, Miri, Beluru and Marudi.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, MetMalaysia also issued a Tropical Storm Advisory (NARRA) after detecting a tropical storm in northwestern China today, but emphasised that the phenomenon would not have a significant impact on Malaysia.
The storm was detected at latitude 19.9° north and longitude 108.0° east, about 114km northwest of Basuo, China, and 1,650km north of Tumpat, Kelantan, as of 8am today, with maximum wind speeds of 65 kph.
