PM congratulates all parties for making SUKMA 2026 a success

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari and the state government for their commitment and hard work in successfully hosting the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA).

He said the well-organised and vibrant staging of the Games demonstrated Selangor's ability to host the country's sporting event in a spirit of enthusiasm and togetherness.

Anwar also congratulated the athletes, coaches, officials, and the secretariat involved, saying that SUKMA was not merely about winning medals but also a platform for discovering talent and producing champions.

"To our young people, continue striving and honing your talents because, God willing, some of you will one day carry Malaysia's name on the world stage. Congratulations to all! Keep moving forward and continue bringing glory to the country.

"Congratulations also to Selangor's Eliza Tan Ai Shen and Pahang's Cheah Zen Hong, who were named the Best Female and Male Athletes, respectively. Even sweeter, hosts Selangor emerged as the overall champions of SUKMA 2026," he said in a Facebook post tonight.

The Prime Minister also conveyed his deepest appreciation to the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir for gracing the closing ceremony of the 22nd edition of SUKMA tonight.

In the same post, Anwar recalled that SUKMA was launched 40 years ago following an idea conceived when he was Youth and Sports Minister in 1983.

"Today SUKMA continues to serve as a platform uniting the talent, spirit and fighting determination of young people from across the country, including Brunei Darussalam," he said.
