SHAH ALAM, Aug 24 — The curtain fell on SUKMA Selangor 2026 today when the hosts were declared champions on home soil with an impressive haul of 245 medals, comprising 101 gold, 73 silver and 71 bronze, surpassing its 80-gold target.
The contingent achieved the target yesterday, with the e-sports squad earning the 80th gold.
The Federal Territories finished in second place overall with 51 gold, 54 silver and 52 bronze for a total of 157 medals, while Terengganu took third with 43 gold, 44 silver and 36 bronze for a total of 123 medals.
The curtain closed on Selangor’s SUKMA campaign with a sweet victory from the silambam camp, which earned the state its last gold today.
Venisha Saravanan, Sasmita Ravi, Roselynn Anuska Devit Raj, Sharvienrajh Selvam, and Preteish Anbucelvan took top spot in the mixed team synchronised bare hand event at MBSJ Stadium in Serdang.
Selangor’s swimming queen Eliza Tan Ai Shen was named Sportswoman of SUKMA 2026, while Pahang shooter Cheah Zen Hong took the Sportsman title after winning nine gold and one silver.
The 19-year-old Eliza ended SUKMA with seven gold, including by sweeping the women’s 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle events.
She also broke the 18-year SUKMA 26.50s record in the 50m freestyle by clocking 26.44s, and smashed the national 100m freestyle record twice on the same day, clocking 57.03s in the heats before finishing in 56.78s in the final.
The last time Selangor was named overall SUKMA champion was at SUKMA Sarawak 2016, having collected 59 gold, 73 silver and 63 bronze.
The final awards were presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and witnessed by Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.
From August 15 to today, 469 events in 37 sports were contested for SUKMA.
Para SUKMA is up next, to be held from September 5 to 14 with 316 events in 10 sports.
