SHAH ALAM, Aug 24 — Selangor was among four states recording unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 8 am today, alongside Sarawak, Kedah and Penang.
According to data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, two areas in Selangor recorded unhealthy readings, with Johan Setia at 161 and Kuala Selangor at 132.
Sarawak remained the state with the most affected areas, with the Serian District Police Headquarters recording an API reading of 189, followed by Kuching (175), Samarahan (170), Sri Aman (158) and Bintulu (108).
In Kedah, Sungai Petani recorded an API reading of 155 and Alor Setar 151, while Penang recorded 139 this morning, according to the data.
Apart from areas with unhealthy air quality, 58 areas nationwide recorded moderate readings as of this morning.
No areas recorded API readings in the good, very unhealthy or hazardous categories during the same period.
The Department of Environment (DOE) continues to monitor ambient air quality nationwide through 68 monitoring stations to detect any significant changes that could affect public health and the environment.
API data is updated hourly, allowing the public to keep track of current air quality conditions.
Under the API classification, readings between zero and 50 are considered good, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy and 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are classified as hazardous.
