KOTA KINABALU, Aug 21 — Three family members were found dead while another person suffered burns after a house fire in Kampung Darau, Menggatal, here early this morning.
The deceased were identified as Loupin Adow, 67, her son Azman Maduin, 50, and her granddaughter Nurul Asyiqin Alinor, 29. Nurul Asyiqin’s 34-year-old husband suffered burns in the fire.
The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre said in a statement that it received an emergency call about the incident at 1.43 am.
“The first fire engine from the Lintas Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) arrived at the scene at 1.50 am.
“An inspection of the house, which was completely destroyed, found the three victims dead, while another victim who suffered burns was taken to hospital by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team for further treatment,” it said.
Firefighters used two 200-foot hose lines with two water jets supplied by fire engine tanks to extinguish the blaze. The fire was brought under control at 2.10 am, while the operation ended at 5.19 am.
“A total of 17 firefighters, including personnel from BBP Lintas, along with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), an EMRS vehicle and three four-wheel-drive vehicles, were deployed to the scene,” the statement said.
The firefighting and rescue operation was also assisted by nine Royal Malaysia Police personnel, three Health Ministry officers and two Sabah Electricity personnel.
