SHAH ALAM, Aug 20 — Selangor swimmer Eliza Tan Ai Shen set a new meet record (MR) in the women’s 100-metre freestyle heats before advancing to the final at the 2026 Selangor Malaysia Games (SUKMA) at the Selangor Aquatic Centre today.
Swimming in lane four in Heat 1, Eliza clocked 57.03 seconds to better the previous meet record of 58.10 seconds.
The performance also secured the 19-year-old a place in the women’s 100m freestyle final, scheduled for this afternoon.
The achievement extended Eliza’s impressive run on her SUKMA debut after she won gold in the women’s 200m freestyle yesterday.
Eliza clocked 2:05.26 to emerge champion while also setting a personal best in the race.
Reflecting on the experience of competing in front of a home crowd, Eliza said the spectators’ support gave her added motivation to perform better.
“I have never swum in front of a crowd with drums beating like this. I could feel the energy and spirit from the spectators,” she said.
