SERDANG, Aug 18 — The Selangor athletics team have an opportunity to add to their medal tally after Nur Qaseh Kiasatina and Lim Mei Yin advanced to the women’s 200-metre final of the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) at Stadium Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) today.

Both runners delivered energetic semi-final performances to secure their places in the final, scheduled for this afternoon.

Qaseh clocked 25.590 seconds in the second heat, while Lim recorded 25.660 seconds to emerge as the fastest runner in the third heat.

Interestingly, both athletes will now compete against each other for a medal after training together throughout their preparations for the Games.

Qaseh said she was satisfied with her semi-final performance and will now focus fully on the final.

“My run went well, and my focus is now on the final. I am happy to compete alongside Mei Yin because we often train together, and now we have an opportunity to win medals for Selangor,” she told Media Selangor.

Meanwhile, Lim, who previously won silver in the women’s 100m, also expressed her delight at reaching another final.

The 17-year-old is determined to improve her personal best in the final despite facing challenging winds during the semi-finals.

“I am happy to have reached the final. My run was a little difficult because there was suddenly a strong gust of wind on the track, but that was not an excuse for me to stop running,” she said.

Meanwhile, Selangor women’s hammer throw athlete Cempaka Zahraa Izwan finished fifth with a throw of 39.95 metres.

Although she missed out on a podium finish, she was satisfied after setting a new personal best at this year’s Games.

Besides Qaseh and Lim, two other male sprinters continued the athletics team’s excellent momentum by advancing to the men’s 200m final today

Muhammad Daniel Haqiem and Danish Irfan Thamrin topped their respective heats to secure places in the final, also scheduled for this afternoon.

Haqiem was the fastest runner in the first heat with a time of 21.750 seconds, while Danish won the fourth heat after clocking 21.840 seconds.

The heats were briefly delayed earlier due to heavy rain and lightning near Stadium UPM.

However, the wet track did not affect their performances, with Daniel and Danish producing their best efforts to secure places in the final.

In the final, the two Selangor representatives are expected to face stiff competition from runners from Johor and Kedah.

With four Selangor sprinters now through to the men’s and women’s 200m finals, the state athletics team have an opportunity to add to their medal haul at SUKMA 2026.

The men’s and women’s 200m finals this afternoon are expected to be among the main highlights of the athletics competition as Selangor continues its pursuit of more medals.
