SERDANG, Aug 17 — The Selangor contingent added another bronze to its athletics medal haul when the 4x100m men’s quartet earned third place during the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) race at UPM Stadium here today.
Ahmad Sufi Mohd Faiesal, Danish Irfan Thamrin, Muhammad Aryan Syahmi and Muhammad Danysh Ashraff logged a time of 40.29s, their tournament best, to finish behind Johor and Sabah.
Leader Danish Irfan said their bronze is a meaningful one as the quartet is a combination of experienced and new faces, and that the team had limited time to prepare with only four training sessions before the tournament.
“We are satisfied because in this SUKMA we mixed old and new athletes. We only trained for four sessions, and for us that was a godsend.
“The competition was intense this SUKMA. Other state runners’ records were very good and it gave us a bit of pressure, but in the end we overcame it and won Selangor a medal,” he told Media Selangor.
He added that Selangor’s podium finish came within reach when the Kedah quartet had an accident during the race, but asserted Selangor’s victory was thanks to the entire team.
