SERDANG, Aug 16 — After a rather slow start in track competitions, the Selangor contingent finally scored their first athletics gold in the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) women’s discus throw at UPM Stadium here today.
Sasha Alyssa Philip emerged champion with a 44.93m throw to defeat Perlis and Sarawak representatives.
The 17-year-old’s victory was made sweeter as it was her best personal record, which made up for her disappointment when settling for third place in Sarawak in 2024.
“I am very happy and proud of myself and want to thank everyone who has supported me for so long.
“It was a difficult competition because all participants did their best, and I am happy to have competed with my (counterparts),” she told Media Selangor.
Sasha added that she hopes the victory boosts her to further throws at future championships.
“I did hope to record a personal best and am happy I could do it,” she said.
SUKMA Selangor 2026 is held till August 24 with 469 events in 37 sports, while Para SUKMA will be held from September 5 to 14 with 316 events in 10 sports. As host, Selangor is targeting 80 gold medals.
