SHAH ALAM, Aug 15 — The Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and Para SUKMA Selangor 2026 officially opened tonight, with Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam coming alive in a vibrant celebration of sporting spirit and unity.
The ceremony, organised by Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation), or MBI, was officiated by Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, who delivered the opening declaration.
The ceremony began with an opening performance and the parade of 15 state contingents and Brunei, led by the waving of the Jalur Gemilang by the Royal Malay Regiment.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari then delivered an address, expressing his appreciation to all parties involved in making the Games a success.
In his speech, Amirudin also reaffirmed the state’s commitment to strengthening sports development and producing more high-performance athletes.
Tengku Amir Shah then delivered the opening declaration for SUKMA and Para SUKMA 2026, marking the biennial Games’ return to Selangor after 28 years.
The state is hosting the Games for the first time since 1998.
The atmosphere was further enlivened by a special performance combining elements of art, culture, music and technology, followed by the raising of the SUKMA 2026 flag as a symbol of sporting spirit and national unity.
The ceremony also featured the Games oath-taking ceremony by athlete representative Muhammad Aiman Syahin Sulaiman, a national junior tenpin bowling athlete, before a second special performance depicting the journey and aspirations of athletes in their pursuit of success.
The highlight of the ceremony was the lighting of the SUKMA and Para SUKMA 2026 torch, symbolising the fighting spirit and sacrifices of the athletes.
Featuring 468 events across 37 sports, the Games continue to serve as a platform for discovering and nurturing young talent towards the international stage.
